Hey everybody!
Umm, well, I just wanted to put in a prayer request for my cousin, Emily. She is in critical condition after choking on some pizza and not being able to breathe for an extended period of time and some complications came from that - read below for more.

Mon 4/4/05 8 am: Please join us in praying for Emily Cole. Emily is Nancy's younger brother's 16 year old daughter. Emily is handicapped - similar to down's syndrome. Robert's family is vacationing in Florida. Yesterday at lunch, Emily choked on a piece of pizza. Robert was unable to dislodge it, and they called 911. When the paramedics arrived, they were able to remove the piece with forceps and took Emily to the hospital. She was only able to get about 60% oxygen capacity. Then, suddenly her pressure dropped to zero. They were able to stabilize her and transferred her to Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, but she is in critical condition. The last report we received - about 11 last night - was that she is on a respirator and the doctors think the next 12-24 hours are critical. She had a seizure and her pressure is still seriously low. The doctor said sometimes a child's system shuts down in response to trauma. She is heavily sedated - I think essentially in a induced coma. If she recovers, they expect her to be in the hospital 10-21 days.
Requests: Please pray God might be gracious in sparing Emily's life. Pray for a great outpouring of God's grace on Robert, his wife, Laura, (who are believers) and their other 2 daughters, Paige and Hanna (10), as they not only face this time of need, but face it far from family.

Tue 4/5/05 8 am: Robert said Emily is making "baby step progress". They were able to feel a pulse in her foot, where before they had to use a doppler tool. They have been able to reduce the ventilator to providing about 45% of her breathing need. Her pressure is still low. She is being kept in a paralyzed, comatose state through the medication. They expect her to be on the ventilator through the week - and the earlier estimate of her hospital stay may be low.
Requests: Pray for wisdom as Robert and Laura decide about getting the s back home for school next week, and if Robert and Laura will both stay.

Tue 4/5/05 4 pm: Slight improvements continue... Emily is down to the respirator providing 30% oxygen and X-Ray showed a slightly better look in her lungs. She is having to take pressure medicine because to keep her pressure from dropping. They have special boots on her feet to exercise the tendons so she will be able to use them when she gets better without hurting. They also have a special heel appliance on that Robert thought was for bed sores. She has an EEG on her all the time and it showed activity during the night and found it was more seizures. They are giving more medicine to stop them. A cousin who is vacationing in the same areas took the other 2 s for 2 days.
Requests: Pray there will be no more seizures, that her lungs will clear up, and her pressure stabilize. Praise God for these small improvements

He will probably (heh - probably...) do a better job at keeping it updated that I will this. I will probably just comment in and update, instead of making a new post, so check the comments for updates.
